British Airways American Express Credit Card Review

AN OVERVIEW OF THE BA AMEX CREDIT CARD

This is my review of the British Airways American Express credit card (BA Amex).

The British Airways American Express credit card is issued directly by American Express. You can hold up to 2 charge cards and 2 credit cards which have been issued by American Express at anyone time, although this doesn’t include Amex cards which I provided by the likes Lloyds, TSB or Barclays.

I’d recommend checking your credit rating before applying for a new card. Generally you should have a rating in excess of 700+. Click here for a free Equifax credit report and score.  It’s free for the first 30 days and then £14.95 per month afterwards (make sure you cancel in the first 30 days!).

The BA Amex card is free.  In addition, should you sign up through Topcashback you’ll receive £10 in cashback and a further £5 for signing up to Topcashback if you use this link.

THE SIGN UP BONUS – BRITISH AIRWAYS CREDIT CARD

The British Airways American Express credit card offers 5,000 Avios points when you spend £1,000 in your first three months.

Membership reward points can be directly converted to Avios and a number of other partners.

You can get a higher bonus of 6,000 miles if I refer you to the BA Amex. Just send me an email at Ben (at) thriftypence.com, and I’ll send through a link.

WHAT ARE THE OTHER BENEFITS OF THE BA AMEX CREDIT CARD?

Earn one Avios point for virtually every £1 spent on the card. These can be applied to the 6,000 sign up bonus and will help you reach those further away destinations.

Further benefits of the BA Amex Card include:

  • A voucher entitling you to book two Avios redemption flights for the price of one, when you spend £20,000. This is valid for one year.       This is quite a high hurdle and if you are interested in gaining this I would strongly recommend getting the BA Amex Premium Plus card (see my review here).

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE BRITISH AIRWAYS AMERICAN EXPRESS?

American Express no longer has a minimum income requirement for the British Airways American Express card.

You cannot receive the sign up bonus if you have had a BA Amex credit card in the last 6 months.   This does not apply to a Platinum Cashback Card, Amex Gold Card or any Amex issued by MBNA, Lloyds, Barclays.

BA AMEX SUMMARY

Whilst the BA Amex Card offers a reasonable sign up offer, I would recommend initially taking out the American Express Gold Card (see my review here).  This offers more in the way of a sign up bonus, additional benefits and is also free of charge for the first 12 months. However if you’ve already used your Amex Gold Card, I’d recommend the British Airways American Express credit card to gain further Avios quickly.

I hope you’ve found the British Airways American Express Card review useful and as always please do comment if you have any queries.  Please do share this post if you think friends would be interested in a British Airways American Express Credit Card.
